During the morning of Friday, May 13, RCS students in grades 9-12 will be participating in an assembly presentation on safe driving hosted by several of our local emergency service agencies and coordinated through a partnership between Roscoe Central School and the Roscoe-Rockland Fire Department. The assembly involves an introductory presentation and a reenactment of an accident scene, followed by a debriefing. The accident reenactment portion of the assembly will take place outside the school with staged wrecked vehicles, and it will involve emergency personnel, emergency vehicles, and a few, preselected faculty members and students acting out an accident scene for about 30 minutes at around 9:45 a.m. Any students involved as actors have already been notified and are doing so on a volunteer basis with their family's consent. Please be aware that any emergency personnel you see at or around the school on Friday, May 13, are likely participating in this non-emergency related, educational experience for our high school students. Also, be aware that any siren/scanner announcements for this reenactment will indicate a simulation. Parents of any 9-12th grade students who are uncomfortable participating should reach out to administration, and an alternative location for these students will be provided during the presentation. A reenactment assembly was done several years ago in our district and was reported by past students to be memorable and powerful. We are requiring that students not use their cellphones during this event, as any pictures that are taken, shared, or published without accurate information that this was a staged reenactment could be alarming and misrepresented to others. This assembly is not open to the public. We appreciate your support in this matter. If you have any questions, please contact the RCS administration.
